DHCF News to help you sell MPE/XL systems in IBM environments SNA DHCF/XL PERFORMANCE IMPROVES ON MPE/XL 2.1 DHCF performance has been improved significantly since the first release on MPE/XL 2.0. On MPE/XL 2.1, the amount of CPU resource required by SNA DHCF/XL is 400% to 1000% less, an average decrease of 84%, allowing more resources for the HP 3000 applications IBM users need to access. DHCF response time on MPE/XL 2.1 is similar to MPE/XL 2.0 because the performance improvements were focused on reducing HP 3000 CPU utilization. The average transaction rate has been increased an average of 32%. Up to 60 IBM 3270 terminal users experience less than 1 second response time on a Series 935 for transactions such as depressing the ENTER key and receiving a colon prompt. Detailed performance data is available in the Product Support Sales Guide (PSSG), 2/90. HOTKEY CAPABILITY Now, applications on the HP 3000 are even easier to access and multiple interactive sessions can increase user productivity. IBM 3270 display station users can "hotkey" between applications on the HP 3000 running DHCF and applications on the IBM host. The Multiple Logical Terminal (MLT) function in the microcode on a 3174 Control Unit provides this capability and allows a terminal user to interact with up to five different sessions on multiple hosts. To enable users to "hotkey" between applications, an IBM 3174 Control Unit Model 51R is required. During our testing, we had two HCF sessions logged onto an HP 3000 Series 925 running DHCF (one session running HP Desk and the other running a VPLUS application) and two TSO sessions on the IBM host (one session interacted with ISPF and the other with SDSF). __________ | IBM Host | | HCF | |__________| | | _______ | 327x | |_______| / \ / \ / \ _____ _____ 3174 Control Unit | MLT | | DHCF| HP 3000 Model 51R |_____| |_____| Series 900 | _____ | 327x| |_____| Terminal Refer to the following IBM manuals for more information: Terminal User's Reference for Expanded Functions, GA23-0332 3174 Establishment Controller Planning Guide, GA27-3844 3174 Customizing Guide, GA23-0214 IBM 5250 TERMINAL ACCESS One HP customer has an HP 3000 application they make available to their clients on a timeshare basis. Some of their customers have IBM 5250 terminals on an IBM System/36. HP was asked whether DHCF would support this type of terminal access to their VPLUS application. The answer is yes. By running a 3270 emulator on the client's IBM System/36, the 5250 displays can access HCF on an IBM 3090 host, then acquire a DHCF session on the HP 3000. ________ ________ ________ | | | | ____ | 3270 | | | | DHCF | |5250|______|Terminal|______| HCF |______| | |____| |Emulator| | | | VPLUS | |________| |________| |________| Terminal S/36 IBM Host HP 3000 DESKEDIT - FULL SCREEN EDITOR SNA DHCF has now been enhanced to support full-screen editing capabilities for users accessing HP Desk. DHCF 3270 Desk Editor provides the 3270 interface between the full screen editing features provided to the 3270 user, and the EDITOR subsystem. MM/PM CERTIFICATION SNA DHCF now allows IBM mainframe users with IBM 3270 display stations to access online applications such as HP MM/3000 and PM/3000 which are running on the HP 3000 Series 900 systems. Note that VPLUS forms need to be recompiled with the 3270 option. For information on designing or modifying a VPLUS application for use with DHCF 3270 sessions, refer to "SNA DHCF/XL Application Programmer's Manual", 36935-61003. COGNOS POWERHOUSE APPLICATIONS HP 3000 applications developed with Cognos Powerhouse are NOT supported by DHCF. SNA DHCF/XL is not a full HP terminal emulator and does not handle the variety of escape sequences used by Powerhouse applications. DHCF supports VPLUS applications and TTY-mode applications only. TTY-mode applications, such as HP Desk, use only four simple types of terminal control characters or escape sequences.
